Welcome to Travel to Colombia

This is the blog of Paul, a young man that flew from his nest in England to distant lands. Namely, he chose to travel to Colombia and live in its capital, Bogotá. It’s a citythat the movies tell us is characterized by dusty colonial streets, blessed with tropical weather and, most exciting of all, laced with bomb explosions. In between said explosions (which I’m yet to see but I trust Hollywood explicitly) I somehow manage to find time to go shopping in some of the best high-street stores, visit some of the most interesting museums and galleries and, of course, enjoy one of the most exciting and vibrant cities to go out in.

A little about me…

Me and some friends walking purposefully through Plaza Bolivar, Bogotá in the morning

Well, this is my blog, right? So you should maybe know a little bit about me. I’m a 20-something graduate in English Literature (studied in England) that’s travelled a fair amount around Europe, a little in Asia and a decent amount in South America. I’ve worked in London for a charity in communications and in Buenos Aires as a content writer, as well as various other small jobs (including a pizza delivery boy, awwwww yeah). I am a massive music, film and football lover, so I’ll apologise in advance for every time I try and squeeze something in about these hobbies.

I work as a part-time writer for Off 2 Colombia, a website that’s pioneering the distribution of (accurate) information about Colombia. It’s a great project and one that’s more than timely since Colombia, as you’ll soon find out if you’re coming here, is rife with a palpable sense of optimism and truly feels on the cusp of something special.

A little about my new home…

A great view of a beach (El Cabo) in Tayrona National Park

Which brings me nicely on to my next topic: Colombia. It’s been a radical transformation here and, although minds still need to be changed, Colombia now speaks for herself loudly and proudly. This is a country of breathtaking landscapes; of idyllic beaches; of unreserved warmth and hospitality; of remarkable cultural diversity and of sensuality, spirit and salsa.

I’ve been in Colombia a while now and honestly it’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to start a blog that’s aimed at bringing you as much information as I can possibly get my grubby little paws on so that some minds might change or some people might find their way to some unexpected corner of Colombia they couldn’t read about in a book. I hope more and more people choose to travel to Colombia and discover everything that’s on offer here because, frankly, otherwise people are missing out.

Please keep coming back, please comment, please share… y’know, all that publicity stuff. Thanks.

Saludos,

Paul
